A verb is a word that shows what the subject is doing, feeling, possessing, or experiencing. It forms the core engine of any meaningful sentence.
- The cat purrs loudly.

Types of Verbs
1. Transitive Verbs
A transitive verb is a verb that requires a direct object to complete its intended meaning. The direct object is the noun or pronoun that receives the structural action of the verb.
• They built a house. ("House" is the direct object)
2. Intransitive Verbs
An intransitive verb does not require a direct object to complete its meaning. It expresses a fully complete action without needing to act upon something or someone else.
• They laughed heartily.
• She sings beautifully. (Intransitive)
• She sings a classic song. (Transitive)
3. Auxiliary Verbs (Helping Verbs)
An auxiliary verb supports the main functional verb in a sentence. It helps explicitly to form verb tenses, moods, and structural voices.
- Be: am, is, are, was, were, being, been
- Have: has, have, had, having
- Do: do, does, did
• They have finished their work. ("have" is the auxiliary verb)
• Do you like pizza? ("Do" is the auxiliary verb)

Three Forms of Verbs

- Regular Verbs (Weak Verbs): Follow a predictable pattern by adding -ed, -d, or -t to the base form (e.g., Walk - walked - walked).
